Idavela Babu Biography

Idavela Babu is a popular character artist and comedian from Thrissur who works in Malayalam cinema. He is active in the film industry since early 1980s and got the nickname, Idavela Babu, after his debut movie Idavela in 1982. He is active in film industry till now with supporting roles. He played the role of politician K C Mathews in his latest release, Punyalan Agarbattis (2013) which earned him a loud noise of applause. The grey shaded role with comic flavours entertained audience a lot. Da thadiya, Pranchiyatten the saint, Issac Newton S/O Philippose, Friday, Ithu Pathiramanal and Tourist home are his recent films. Mazhavilkoodaram, Thalastaanam, Hitler, Mimics — Super 1000, Kasarkode Kadher Bhai, Naran, Ennodishtam Koodamo, Twenty: 20, Udayon, Chronic Bachelor, Akasha Ganga and Pranayanilavu are among his noted character roles.

He was born in Irinjalakuda of Thrissur in 1963. Irinjalakuda is the birth place of the well-established comedian and recently elected Member of Parliament, Innocent. His father V. Raman was Administrative Assistant of Kerala Police Department. His mother Santha Raman is a retired music teacher. His schooling and graduation were completed at his hometown. Throughout his school and college life he was active in art festivals and competitions and won many prizes as well. He represented his college, Christ College, Irinjalakuda in the Calicut University Youth Festival in the folk dance section many years and retained the first prize for the years 1980 to 1983. By then, he had debut film world. Impressed by his talent, college director Mohan gave him the name Idavela Babu, the name through which he became popular later.

In a career spanning to more than 3 decades he has done over 100 movies and has also worked as a dubbing artist. Most of his roles were noticed for its comic touch. He is also associated with Malayalam television as an actor and star anchor.
