Hukmdev Narayan Yadav Biography

Hukmdev Narayan Yadav is an Indian politician from the state of Bihar. He is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party, and currently serves as a member of the 16th Lok Sabha. He is a former Rajya Sabha member and minister of India. He served as the Union Cabinet Minister, Textiles and Food Processing Industries during 1990 -91. Between 1999 and 2001 in the BJP cabinet, he has held portfolios such as Agriculture, Surface Transport and Shipping at different points of time. For his overall contributions towards Public Affairs, he has been honored with Padma Bhushan in 2019.

 

Hukmdev Narayan Yadav hails from Bijuli, Darbhanga district, Bihar. He was born on 17 November 1939 as the son of Rajgir Yadav and Champa Devi. He is also an agriculturist by profession, apart from his social work and politics. He is married to Sudesh Yadav and has three children. He completed his graduation from Chandradhari Mithila College. As a social worker he is best known for his works at Madhubani along with Indranath Jha. After the death of Jha, Yadav took the full responsibility of Madhubani.

 

Hukmdev had a humble beginning in politics. Starting off with local village ruling bodies and panchayat, he reached the top most level, served as a member of parliament multiple times and also served as union minister. Hukmdev is a prominent BJP leader from Bihar, associated with national level politics. He served as the Gram Pradhan (village head) of Bijuli Panchayat for two terms between 1960 and 1968. He also served as the President, Prakhand Panchayat Samiti of Darbhanga during 1965-67.

 

He got elected to Bihar Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1966, and got re-elected in 1969 and 1972. He became the General Secretary, Bhartiya Lok Dal, Bihar during 1974 and remained in that position for next three years. He got elected to Lok Sabha in 1979 and Rajya Sabha in 1980. He got re-elected to Lok Sabha in 1989, 1999, 2009 and 2014.
