Hrishikesh Sulabh Biography

Hrishikesh Sulabh is an Indian writer in Hindi language and is best known for his short stories and plays in Bideshiya Shaili. He is working with All India Radio. He was born on 15^th February 1955 in Laheji village in Sivan in Bihar.

He studied at the village school at Laheji. His father, Dr. Rama Shankar Srivastava Prasad was a freedom fighter and a homeopathic doctor. rishikesh Sulabh completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Hindi and pursued his Masters’ degree in the same subject. However due to the financial constraints and family responsibilities he could not complete it. He took up his career with All India Radio as an executive.

He married Mira Kumar Varma also called as Meena Shrivastava on 26^th April 1982 when he was 28. He has three daughters named Vatsala, Vasundhara and Vallari. He was influenced by his father. The National School of Drama staged his play Batohi. He is continuously writing for the literary magazine Kathadesh. His latest play is Dharti Aaba.

His works could be classified into plays, short stories and theatre criticism. Some of his plays are Dharti Aaba, Amli, Mati Gadi, Batohi, Maila Aanchal, etc. and some of his short stories are Pattharkat, Vadhsthal Se chalang, Bandha Hai Kaal, Tuti Ki Aawaz, asant Ke Hatyare, etc. and some of his theatre criticisms include Sarika, Lahar, Ravivar, Kathayatra, Samya, Vartman Sahity, Ab Kahani Visheshank, Hans, Kathan, Janpath, Samkaleen Bhartiya Sahitya, etc. His articles are published in newspapers and magazines such as Jagaran, Dainik Hindustan, and Rashtriya Sahara.

Some of the awards that he has received for his works are 16th Indu Sharma International Katha Samman 2010 by Katha UK, Banarsi Prasad Bhojpuri Samman for short story writing in Hindi, Anil Kumar Mukharji Shikhar Samman for theatre activities and writing plays, Ramvriksh Benipuri Samman for writing plays, Patliputra award for writing plays and theatre works, and Siddhnath Kumar Smriti Sammn for writing plays and theatre criticism.
