Himani Shivpuri Biography

Himani Shivpuri is a film and television actress. She appears in supporting and character roles in Bollywood films, mostly as mother and grandmother roles. She has been a part of many successful Hindi movies like – Hum aapke hain kaun, Raja, Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, Deewana masthana, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain, Mujhe kuch kehna hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Koyla, Hero no.1, Hamara dil aapke paas hai, Mammo, Anjaam, Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, Bandhan, Hum saat saat hain, Kuch kuch hota hai, Biwi no.1, Anari no.1, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, Hadh karde aapne, Vaastav: The Reality, Hum tumpe marthe hain, Khoobsurat and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. She is equally famous in comic roles as well as negative shades. Other noted roles include – Tera Jadoo Chal Gayaa, Krodh, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda, Dhanwaan, Kareena’s mother in Mein prem ki deewani hoon and Patient Ramgopal's wife in Hum kisise kum nahin.

Shivpuri was born and brought up in Dehradun. Her father was a school teacher. While she was at school she was actively involved in school plays. Though she completed PG in Chemistry, she chose acting as her career. She joined National School of Drama, New Delhi and graduated in 1984. She was married to actor Gyan Shivpuri, who died in 1995. Shivpuri made her film debut in 1984 with Ab Ayega Mazaa. She became popular with the movie Hum aapke hain kaun in 1994. She has been associated with Doordarshan as a serial actress since early 1990’s.

Shivpuri is famous for television serials as well. A few of her popular works include - Hamari Betiyoon Ka Vivaah as Kulraj Kohli, Mrs Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein as Mrs Lajwanti, Sanjog Se Bani Sangini as Shanno, Beend Banoongaa Ghodi Chadhunga as Sarika’s grandmother, Sasural Simar Ka, Baat Hamari Pakki Hai and I love my India.
