Hemanth Rao Biography

Hemanth Rao is a film director and screenwriter who works in Kannada cinema. He marked his directorial debut with Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu in 2016. This drama film become commercial hit at the box-office. Currently he is working on the project, Kavalu Daari starring Anant Nag, Rishi, Suman Ranganathan and Achyuth Kumar. The movie belongs to investigative noir category. The film is produced by Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar. His debut work, Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu bagged him Raghavendra Chitravani Award for Best Screenplay and Gollapudi Srinivas Award.

His full name is Hemanth M. Rao. He hails from Bangalore, Karnataka. He holds an engineering degree, yet never took it as profession. After studies he had brief stint with journalism. Then he finally decided to join film industry and entered film industry in 2005. He worked as an assistant director with Girish Kasaravalli in 2008, followed by a few directors like Jacob Varghese and Prithvi. He turned an independent filmmaker in the year 2016, after staying more than a decade in the industry. The story idea for Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu flashed in his mind about six years ago before the filmmaking, when he decided to go independent, after working as assistant director in the industry.

Rao made an impressive directorial debut with Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu in 2016. Rakshit Shetty and Anant Nag played the pivot roles in the film. He received positive reviews for his film, and it was a commercial success. In 2018, he turned a film producer with Humble Politician Nograj. He was a co-producer of the film, released under the banner Pushkar Films, Lost & Found Films and Paramvah Studios. The film received mixed reviews, and fared only average.
