Hemanth Kumar (Kannada Singer) Biography

Hemanth Kumar is a leading playback singer associated with Kannada film industry. He is a recipient of Karnataka State Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer twice in 2006 and 2007 for the movies, Kallarali Hoovagi and Janapada respectively. He is also a recipient of multiple music awards including Filmfare and Karnataka Chitra Rasikara Sangha Awards. Title track from the 2000 movie, Preethse was his major breakthrough which earned him several awards as well. Hemanth has also sung song in music albums "Life is Beautiful" and "Baa Sangaati". He has also hosted several musical shows on television.

 

Hemanth Kumar, also known as Hemanth hails from a musical family of Bangalore. His mother Rathna Sastry is a classical singer, who used to perform in music concerts. His father Subramanya Sastry is also an ardent music fan who promotes art. He worked as a college professor in economics. Young Hemanth was initiated to the world of Carnatic music by his mother. He continued his studies under Vidwan Sri R. K. Srikantan, and many more gurus. He also received training from H. K. Narayana, one of the prominent names of Carnatic music.

 

Hemanth Kumar was introduced to the film scene in the late 1990s by V. Manohar through 1998 film, Mr. Putsami. "Baa Baa Baa Baare" was his debut film song. But his real break to playback singing happened in the year 2000 and it was given by Dr. Hamsalekha. Preethse Preethse song from the movie Preethse was originally meant for Udit Narayan, but later sung by Hemanth. This evergreen song earned him best male playback singer award at Suprabhatha Award, Asianet Kaveri Film Awards and Asianet Suvarna TV awards.

 

Since then he is fully associated with the industry as a playback singer and TV host. “Kuhu Kuhu" for Udaya TV, “Gunagaana", "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa” and "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa little champs" for Zee Kannada TV are some of his popular shows on television. Title song from Kallarali Hoovagi earned him Filmfare awards 2007. He had a short married life with Priyadarshini in 2007-2008, who later accused him for harassing him for dowry. They got separated after that.
