Hemalatha Biography

Hemalatha is a noted television actress of Tamil soaps. She has also appeared in a few Telugu and Tamil movies and is also a dancer. Often credited as Hema, she is best known for playing the female protagonist Raghavi in the first season of Tamil soap opera Kana Kaanum Kaalangal on aired on STAR Vijay. She also played the supporting role – Deepa in the popular series ‘Thendral’ on Sun TV. Hemalatha caught attention when she won the reality show - Jodi Number One - Season 3, where she performed aside actor-dancer Michael Thangadurai, who has appeared in a few Tamil films.

Hemalatha is born into a family with filmy background. Many of her uncles and other relatives have worked in movies. Hemalatha too started very young. She started her career as a child artist in the mid-1990s. Rajinikanth starrer Baasha (1995) is her first credited role as a child artist. She also appeared in many hit movies of 1990s like - Soorya vamsam, Poove Unakkaga, Sethu etc. She also appeared in the television series - Radhika Sarathkumar’s Chitti in 1999, which happened to be her first serial on television. She played the role of the child Kaveri.

After a short break, she was seen in a supporting role in the hit movie - Kaadhal Kondein followed by Madhurey, Ji, Parijatham, Thimiru etc. Though big screen didn’t offer her much fame, she gained popularity through the television soaps - Kana Kaanum Kaalangal and Thendral. Both the serials helped her to earn popularity and now Hemalatha is a household name among Tamil audience. "Kanaa Kaanum Kalangal" told the story of school days and friendship.
