Heena Sidhu Biography
Heena Sidhu is an Indian sportswoman concentrating in the game of shooting. She has won gold medal in 2010 Commonwealth Games in the doubles event along with Annu and also won silver medal in the singles event. She represented India in the 2012 Summer Olympics at London and could get only 12th place in the qualification round.
Heena was born on 30th November 1989 in Ludhiana in Punjab and her home town is Patiala. Her father’s name is Rajbir Singh Sidhu and her mother’s name is Rominder Kaur Sidhu. Her father is an officer with the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department and he always encourages her daughter in her shooting career. Heena has completed her studies in dental medicine and is a doctor.
She started practicing the game of shooting when she was in her 12th standard and took part in the National Junior Team. She started to participate in various competitions in 2007 and also played for the Patiala Club.
Her selection for Olympics turned a controversy when the National Rifle Association surrendered a quota and exchanged it for Heena. As per the ISSF rules, this type of exchange is allowed and as Heena has done well at the Asian Games in Guangzhou and Commonwealth Games in India, she got this chance. There was a talk that the sports ministry did not fund her properly. She was coached by Anatoly Piddubnyi during Olympics.
