Harsimrat Kaur Badal Biography

Harsimrat Kaur Badal is an active politician of Shiromani Akali Dal and Member of Parliament for Bathinda constituency. She is the wife of Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, son of powerful Sikh leader and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. She started her political career with the Indian general election of 2009 where she defeated Congress candidate Raninder Singh by 120960 votes. She has started a project named "Nanhi Chhan", a movement to save girl child and trees. Bikram Singh Majithia, an Akali MLA from Majitha is her brother. Harsimrat Kaur Badal has also served the Member of Committee on Estimates, Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment and Standing Committee on Food & Public Distribution.

Harsimarat Kaur Badal was born in 1966 to Satyajit and Sukhmanjus Majithiahas in Delhi. She took a graduation in textile design. She married Sukhbir Singh Badal, son of Parkash Singh Badal in 1991. Currently Mr. Badal is the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab. He is also the President of Sikh political party Shiromani Akali Dal. The couple has one son and two daughters. Harsimarat Kaur Badal started her political career in 2009 with general elections, where she stood as the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate at Bhatinda constituency. She defeated the congress candidate by 120960 votes.

During her first speech on December 3, 2009, she remembered the victims and survivors of the 1984 Sikh riots. Most recently she hit out strongly against Rahul Gandhi after he shared an emotional account of Indira Gandhi's assassination in 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards. She expressed her grief that entire youth of Punjab was wiped out in the name of terrorism after this incident. Ms Badal’s controversial rebut to Rahul through English news channel NDTV may invite more news in future.
