Harshika Poonacha Biography

Harshika Poonacha is a south Indian actress who predominantly works in Kannada movies. She also works in Telugu, Kodava, Konkani and Tulu language films. She made her acting debut with the Kannada movie, PUC in 2008 where she played the role of Gowri. In 2010 she role as Amreen Sabha in Thamassu won her Karnataka State Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. Same year she received Suvarna Award for Best Supporting Actress award and nomination at Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Yashodha in Jackie. Anandha Thollai, Maryade, Crazy Krishna and Beet are her upcoming movies.

Harshika Poonacha was born on 1 May 1990 in Ammathi, a small village in Karnataka. She is a single girl child to her parents. She did her first movie PUC while studying at Christ College, at the age of 18. After college, she started her career through television anchoring television shows. Nimmindha Nimagaagi, Hrudayadinda and the Sarigamapa television reality show are a few of such programs where she appeared as an anchor. Later she joined Cambridge Institute of Technology and completed B.Tech in Electronics in the year 2011. In parallel, she successfully carried her television career. In 2012 she joined 'Maxpro' Software Company, but giving more times to films. Ponnamma, Kazar, Edukondalavada Venkataramana Andaru Bagundali and Sugreeva are her earliest appearances.

Her big break came in the year 2010 with the Kannada movie, Thamassu with Shivrajkumar for which she won State award for best supporting actress. It was soon followed by another noted appearance the same year – Jackie. This movie too gave her awards as well as nominations. Murali Meets Meera, 5 Idiots, Ko Ko, Parie, Mangana Kaili Maanikya, Ale and Crazy Loka are her recent releases.
