Harish Shankar Biography

Harish Shankar is a successful screenwriter and director associated with Telugu cinema. Subramanyam for Sale (2015) is his latest movie, which has been already declared a super hit. The comedy starring Sai Dharam Tej and Regina Cassandra in the lead roles was released under the banner Sri Venkateswara Creations. One of the successful young directors of Telugu cinema at present, the action-comedy film Gabbar Singh is one of his big hits. The movie was an adaption of Hindi blockbuster Debangg. One of the most anticipated movies of year 2013, Ramayya Vasthavayya was a failure despite getting good opening.

 

Harish was born in an Agraharam in Dharmapuri into a family of orthodox Brahmins and was brought up in BHEL, Hyderabad where he completed his schooling as well as MBA graduation. It was his father, a Telugu master who introduced him to the world of books and reading. His father was a great fan of films who introduced young Harish to Amitabh Bachchan and NTR movies. He used to take part in cultural activities and competitions. He was associated with theatre works in ‘Seeta Nilayam’ and ‘Lalitha Kala Mandiram’ during his college days. He also worked as backstage writer such as writing dialogues in those days.

 

Later he worked as an assistant director for the film 'Ninne Isthapaddanu’ and befriended Kona Venkat, under whom he worked for the movie, Veede. It was Ravi Teja who offered him director’s cap for his next venture – Shock. The movie starred Ravi Teja, Ramjagan, Jyothika and Tabu, but was a flop. Later a few of his announced projects got shelved and Ravi teja once again offered him – Mirapakay which became a commercial success. It was followed by Gabbar Singh, which established him as a successful director.
