Harish Rawat Biography 
Harish Rawat is the 7th and current Chief Minister of Uttarakhand state of India. He belongs to Indian National Congress party and was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha. He represented Uttarakhand in Rajya Sabha. He was first given the position of Minister of State in the Ministries of Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs and in 2012, was given cabinet rank and charge of Water Resources. He has been head of Congress Volunteer Wing - Congress Seva Dal since 1980. Harish was sworn as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on 1st February, 2014 following the resignation of Vijay Bahuguna. Bahuguna resigned on 31st January, 2014 after widespread criticism for handling rescue operations in the wake of floods in June, 2013.
Harish Rawat was born in Mohanari village of Almora district, on 27 April 1947 in a Rajput family. His parents are Rajendra Singh Rawat and Devaki Devi. After graduation in arts, he completed L.L.B. from Lucknow University. Harish started at village level politics and reached Indian parliament. He has served Indian national congress as Trade Unionist and an Indian Youth Congress member for many years. He reached Indian parliament for the first time in 1980, defeating the BJP veteran Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi from Almora parliamentary constituency. He was chosen in the 7th Lok sabha elections. He was re-elected from same constituency in the 8th and 9th Lok sabha elections.
In the year 2000, he was elected as the president of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC). He remained in the post till he was replaced by Yashpal Arya. In the year 2002, he became a member of Rajya Sabha. In 2009, he had to leave his favourite Almora and contest from Haridwar and he won with a majority of 332055 votes.
