Harish Iyer Biography

Harish Iyer is a social activist from Barrackpore, West Bengal. He is also known as a Columnist and blogger. His full name is Harish Padma Vishwanath Iyer. As an activist he is best known for supporting the rights of LGBT community which includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. He also fights for the rights of women and children, animals, and survivors of child sexual abuses. A vocal opponent of the re-criminalisation of homosexuality in India, he has promoted many awareness campaigns for this reason. He was featured on Aamir Khan's talk show Satyamev Jayate in an episode on the issue of child sexual abuse, where he shared some of his childhood horrific experiences too.

 

Harish Padma Vishwanath Iyer hails from Barrackpore, West Bengal. He was born on 16 April 1979. He was a victim of horrific sexual abuses during his childhood, and later he decided to fight for the same cause. Ever since this child abuse survivor is active with his social life, he is regular in talk shows on different TV channels where he discusses burning topics like child abuses, exploitation of LGBT community etc. British actor Stephen Fry interviewed him for his BBC2 documentary "OUT THERE". He stood with the rape survivor Suzette Jordan after she succumbed to meningoencephalitis, and it got a lot of media attention in 2015.

 

He is regular with social networking sites and expresses his opinions and views on social issues on Facebook, twitter etc. In 2009, Iyer and Shobhaa De initiated a campaign called S.I.T.A, an initiative for women against eve teasers. His life inspired two films, director Onir's I Am and the short film Amen.
