Hard Kaur Biography

Taran Kaur Dhillon, known by her stage name Hard Kaur is a successful pop singer and rapper. She is also known for hip hop and fast tracks. She has done playback singing in a few Bollywood movies and has appeared in ‘Patiala House’ as Akshay Kumar’s singing sister and a few more songs. The hit number - ‘Move your body baby’ of Johnny Gaddar was sung and presented on screen by Kaur. She has also appeared singing ‘Teriyan Adavaan’ for Punjabi movie, Hanni in 2013. ‘Mein tera dhadkan teri’ of Ajab Pyar ki gazab kahani also needs mention. This British Indian is often credited to be the first female Indian rapper.

 

Taran Kaur Dhillon was born on born 29 July 1979 in Kanpur, UP. She had hardships in her childhood. Her mother was a beautician who runs a small beauty parlour at home. She lost her father at a younger age and when their parlour was burnt by an accidental fire, her grandparents asked her and her mother to leave home, leaving her brother there. This incident prompted the family to move to Hoshiarpur to her maternal grandparents’ house where they stayed for a couple of years.

 

In 1991, her mother married a British and whole family shifted to London. It was during this time when Kaur developed interests in hip-hop and she started her music career as a rapper. Her song "Ek Glassy" was top for the UK and thus she got an opportunity to sing for Johny Gaddhar. In 2008 Hard Kaur was nominated UK Asian Music Awards for ‘Best Urban Act’ and ‘Best Female Act’, where she won the second one. Her second music album titled Party Loud All Year: P.L.A.Y was released in Sony Music in the year 2012.’ Mujhe peeney do’ is one of its hit tracks.
