Gurumayum Bonny Biography

Gurumayum Bonny is a very popular and entertaining actor from Manipuri cinema. He appears in Meitei films and worked in Shumang Leelas including Kunti series - Kunti 6 (Mihatpung), Aruba Eechel, Amamba Lambee, Nongallamdaisida, Yeningthana Ngairi, Opium War and Pizza etc. In 2013 he won Manipuri state award for best actor for the role he played in Yaiskulgee Pakhang Angaoba. His role in Khongfam bagged him SSS MANIFA 2017 award for best actor in a negative role. His sense of humour has earned him the title of an entertainer, and he needs no introduction to Manipuri audience of present generation.

Gurumayum Bonny Sharma was born on 27 May in Imphal, Manipur. Gurumayum Robindro Sharma and Gurumayum (O) Surjamukhi Devi are his parents. Before joining film industry he has been associated with Shumang Leelas – a form of street plays played at different locations in open courtyard. Gurumayum Bonny first joined theatre as an artist in the year 1995 in Bashikhong Dramatic Union under the supervision of K. B. Sharma.

He joined film industry playing villain roles, and later played supporting roles and lead hero roles on screen. Lanmei Thanbi in 2008 marked his film debut, and he played a negative role. His negative role in Khongfam was well received and also earned him accolades. He didn’t restrict himself to a particular kind of roles, and through his dedication and hard work he earned the title of an entertainer.

Yo Sanatombi in the film Yaiskulgee Pakhang Angaoba is his most memorable role up-to-date and he won the prestigious state award for best actor for this role. Some of his best film roles are Beragee Bomb, Chow Chow Momo na haobara Shingju Bora na oinambara, Nungshibase Phagi Natte, Yaiphare Yaiphare, Amamba Sayon, Western Sankirtan, VDF Thasana and Delhi Mellei.
