Gurukiran Shetty Biography

Gurukiran Shetty is a famous music director of Kannada film industry. He is a native of Mangalore and started his career in the year 1998, with the movie A. The movie won Udaya film awards for best music. His noted works include – Chitra, Mylari, Balabeladingalu, Kariya, Aptamitra, Jogi, Govindaya Namaha and Dhum. He has been passion in acting as well and has done a few movies in Kannada. Sunil Kumar Desai’s Nishkarsha was one such role. But his real talent was in music than acting and later he concentrated on his music skills. He has acted as judge of 2 seasons of Confident Star Singer on Asianet Suvarna and Ede Tumbi Haduvenu on ETV Kannada.

 

Gurukiran did his schooling at St Aloysius. He took graduation in commerce from Mangalore University. He has worked as a part of orchestra and participated in many stage programs before joining movies. He started his career as assistant music director of V. Manohar. As an individual music director his debut was the Kannada movie "A". His work was well noticed and his second movie, Upendra cemented his position in Kannada film industry. "Kanasina Maratta" from the movie Banna Bannada Loka was sung by Gurukiran Shetty.

 

Aphtamitra and jogi proved to be the milestones of his career and his music has always won numerous awards at music functions. In 2011, he won his single Karnataka State Film Award for Best Music Director for the movie Mylari. In 2012 he won SIIMA Award for Best Music Director for Govindaya Namaha. He has received Filmfare awards (south) thrice for the movies – Chitra, Dhum and Apthamitra. He has also won Srigandha awards three times for the movies – Apthamitra, Jogi and Chitra. He received 'Nava Yuva Prathibe' award for the best entry in the TV Industry for acting and Music in 1994.
