Guru Thakur Biography

Guru Thakur is a multifaceted personality from Maharashtra, known as a writer, poet, lyricist, screenwriter, actor and playwright. Started as a columnist and cartoonist for several Marathi dailies, very soon he got noticed as a writer, poet and lyricist. He is also a voiceover artist of Marathi entertainment industry. Apart from movies he has scripted for television shows and plays. Natarang (2010) is his most recognized work as a scriptwriter and lyricist, for which he won 'Zee Gaurav Award’ and 'V. Shantaram Award’ for best lyricist for the song - 'Khel Mandla'. In fact the movie gave him a distinct landmark in the film industry. He acted in one Marathi film - Na Na Nakose (2013) in a supporting role.

He started his career as a columnist for newspapers and got success as a cartoonist, caricaturist, voice-over artist and script writer. But it was his stint as a lyricist which gave him most appreciation and popularity.  He was a script writer for the popular television serial Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre and the popular Marathi drama - Bhaiyya Haat Paay Pasari. Natarang (2010) gave him the position of a leading lyricist of the industry. Prior to his film journey he had stints with dailies – Marmik, Tarun Bharat, Pudhari, Maharashtra Times and Navakaal as a writer, columnist, cartoonist and caricaturist.

Some of his noted works as a lyricist include - Jai Maharashtra Dhaba, Bhatinda, Ishq Wala Love, Yellow, Zapatlela 2, No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahey!, Dhating Dhingana, Lek Ladki, Lai Bhaari, Pyaar Vali Love Story etc. With Ajay-Atul’s music and Guru Thakur’s lyrics, Natarang set a new trend in Marathi music industry. He shot to fame with the song 'Khel Mandala' for the movie, which accumulated numerous awards for best lyrics. Now undoubtedly he is one of the leading lyricists of Marathi films.
