Gunvant Shah Biography

Gunvant Shah is a noted writer associated with Gujarati literature. He is also known as a columnist and thinker. He is the recipient of Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak in 1997. In 2015 Government of India honoured him with Padma Shri for his contributions to Indian literature. He has authored numerous books on philosophy and thinking, apart from essays, novels, poetry and autobiography works. Still active as a columnist, he writes for the dailies - Divya Bhaskar, Chitralekha and Navneet Samarpan.

 

Vismayanu Parodh is his anthology of poems, while Billo Tillo Tach and Jat Bhanee Ni Jatra are his autobiography works. Pavan Nu Ghar, Rajkan Suraj Thavane Shamane and Motel are his published novels. Maro Tya Sudhi Jivo, Bhagavananee Tapal, Patangiya Ni Amrutyatra, Patangiya Ni Akashyatra, Gandhi Ni Ghadiyal, Secular Mijaj, ‘Mahant, Mullah, Padri’, Karunamurti Buddha, Sabko Sanmati De Bhagwan, Man Na Meghdhanush, Ramayan Manavtanu Mahakavya and Sambhavami Kshane Kshane were among his countless philosophy books. He wrote on Somnath and Mahmood Gazni, and a strong supporter of Narendra Modi.

 

Gunvant B. Shah was born in Rander of Surat district, Gujarat. He was born in 1937. His education was completed at Surat and Vadodara and later he took teaching job. He joined M. S. University of Baroda in 1961 as a lecturer and reader and continued there for more than one decade till 1972. In between he also served as a visiting professor at University of Michigan, USA. In 1972 he moved to Chennai. He joined the Department of Education, Technical Teachers' Training Institute where he served as department head and professor.

 

In 1973 he moved to Mumbai and later in 1975 moved to Surat and he continued with his teaching job apart from writing and publishing his works. He has served as President Indian Association for Education Technology. After retirement he moved to Vadodara, and still active with his writings.
