Gundu Sudarshan Biography

Gundu Sudarshan is an actor and comedian associated with Telugu entertainment industry. He is also known as a writer, and a stage actor. Appeared in more than 350 films, he is one of the most popular comedian and character artists of present day Telugu cinema, and an experienced theatre personality who started his acting career on stage as a child artist at the age of 10. He worked as a lecturer in SRKR Engineering College, Bhimavaram before he completely switched on to movies.

His full name is Surampudi Sudarshan Rao and he hails from Bhimavaram, Andra Pradesh. He was born to advocate Subbarao and Kanakalatha. Brilliant in studies, Sudarshan completed his master’s degree and Ph. D in Civil Engineering from J.N.T.U Hyderabad, before he started his career as a college lecturer. He used to watch mythological dramas from his childhood, and has started appearing as a stage actor since the age of 10. Mondi Guruvu Banda Sishyudu was his first play. He was fully active in cultural events since his school days. During his active academic college years too, he never left his passion of acting and occasionally appeared in plays.

He was introduced to Bapu through the writer Sriramana, whom he knew earlier. Bapu offered him a role of Pinni Gari Mogudu in a comedy serial Navvite Navvandi. Later he played roles in a few more television serials like Bhagavatam. Srinatha Kavi Sarvabhowmudu (1991) marked his acting debut on big screen and since then he is doing character roles up-to-date. Samanthakamani, Dictator and Guntur Talkies are among his recent releases. He is a freelance writer too who writes columns for newspapers and magazines. He is married to Vijayalakshmi, a housewife and the couple has two children.
