Govind Chandra Pande Biography 
Professor Govind Chandra Pande was an Indian historian of the Vedic and the Buddhist periods, who lived during the period, 30 July 1923 – 22 May 2011. He was one among the scholars who served for the cause of the ever-vanishing language of classical India, Sanskrit in the 20th century. He served a professor of ancient history. As an administrator he has served as vice-chancellor at Jaipur and Allahabad universities and also chairman of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Allahabad Museum Society and Central Tibetan Society, Sarnath Varanasi. He has served as a board member of many cultural organizations and also published his research books.
Govind Chandra Pande was born on 30 July 1923. He started his professional career as a lecturer in Allahabad University in 1947. Later he joined as Reader in the Department of Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology and worked in this position till 1957 before he was promoted to the elite position of Dean, Faculty of Arts. He re-joined Allahabad University in 1978 as Vice-Chancellor after a gap of 20 years. He served this position till his retirement in 1984. Later he served as a visiting professor and taught many students.
He is a recipient of Ramakrishna Jaidayal Dalmia Shreevani Nyas Award, a prestigious award conferred for excellence in Sanskrit language and literature, for his work "Saundarya Darshan", on the Indian theory of aesthetics. Apart from authoring many books, he also served as an editor for various publications. Life and Thought of Sankaracharya, Bauddha Dharma ke Vikas ka Itihas, Vaidik Samskriti, Rigveda, Studies in the Origins of Buddhism, The Meaning and Process of Culture, Mulya Mimamsa etc are among his published works.
