Gouramangi Singh Biography

Gouramangi Singh is an Indian professional footballer who played with many football clubs of India. He hails from Imphal, Manipur, and plays at the position - Centre back for his team. A product of the Tata Football Academy, he has been associated with around a dozen of football clubs in India, apart from playing for national team during 2006–2013. One of the valuable players of national team who had a long-term association, he has played 71 matches scoring 6 goals for team India. He also played 2015 Indian Super League season as a member of FC Pune City.

 

Gouramangi Singh hails from Imphal, Manipur. His full name is Gouramangi Moraingtem Singh. He was born on 25 January 1986. He received training from Tata Football Academy and has played with some of the leading football clubs of the country such as Dempo SC and Churchill Brothers. He is one of the tallest players from India, which helped him a lot in his professional career too. His ability to head the ball strongly and also in tackling helped him to win a prominent position with his team always. He was a team member of Dempo SC which won the Federation Cup and the National Football League.

 

He gained recognition and came to limelight for the first time after guiding Team India as a captain to the Ian Rush Trophy in 2003 and won the trophy as well. A member of All India Football Federation, he played in U-17 Indian squad in the 2002 AFC U-17 Championship, Abu Dhabi and also U-20 Indian squad in the 2004 Asian Youth Championship, Malaysia. He was a team member of Nehru Cup International Football Tournament 2007 beating Syria in the finals. He played in the Olympic qualifiers for the Indian U-23 team.
