Gouher Sultana Biography

Gouher Sultana is an Indian female cricketer who has been a member of women’s national team. She hails from Hyderabad. Along with Amita Sharma she holds the record for the highest ever 10th wicket partnership in Women's ODI history. They put up a total 58 runs in the 10th wicket to get this record on 4 Jul 2012 against England at Taunton. The record was later broken in 2017 when Australian women - AJ Blackwell and KM Beams scored 76 runs against team India at Derby. Gouher is best known as a left-arm orthodox spin bowler who occasionally bats right-hand for her team.

 

Gouher Sultana was born on 31 March 1988 in Hyderabad in undivided Andhra Pradesh, now a part of Telangana. She played domestic cricket after which she got selected to India's Under-21 women's team. In 2008 she joined India national women's cricket team and played her last international match in 2014. She was selected as a left-arm orthodox spin bowler for the national side.

 

She marked her international debut on 5 May 2008 v Pakistan in an ODI, and played a total of 50 ODIs taking 66 wickets. She also scored 96 runs with a batting average just above 10. She played her last ODI on 21 Jan 2014 v Sri Lanka. She has never got opportunity to play test matches in her international career. However she played 32 T20 matches taking 29 wickets. She made her T20I debut on 28 October 2008 v Australia, and played last match against Pakistan on 2 April 2014. She has been a team member of 2009 Women's Cricket World Cup played in Australia.
