Gollapudi Maruti Rao Biography 
Gollapudi Maruti Rao is an actor of movies and theatre and he is also known as a screenwriter, dramatist, playwright, and dialogue writer known for his works in Telugu Cinema. He is also known for his works in All India Radio and Journalism for over two decades. He is a noted writer also. Rendu Rellu Aaru, Patita, Karuninchani Devatalu, Mahanatudu, Kaalam Venakku Tirigindi and Aasayaalaku Sankellu are his noted plays that have won many literal awards. He has won 6 Nandi awards belonging to 6 different categories as well as many radio awards. He has acted in more than 230 Telugu films. In 1997, he established Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Foundation, which awards the Gollapudi National Award, for best debutant director in Indian cinema. His essays on theater titled - Telugu Nataka Rangam, was prescribed as a textbook for the Department of Theatre Arts, Andhra University in 1967.
He was born on 14 April 1939 at Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. He graduated from Andhra University. As a writer, he has published 9 plays, 18 playlets, 4 short story collections, 2 essays and 4 collections of children stories. He wrote a weekly column, “Jeevana Kaalam" for 24 years in Telugu daily, Andhra Jyothy. Amma Kadupu Challaga is his published autobiography work and Tanzania Teerthayatra is his travelogue. He received Sangam Academy Award for Best Play Kallu (1975) and Sarvaraya Dharmanidhi Puraskaram for the Best Humorous writing (1983).
He won Mahatma Gandhi Award for Creative Literature in an All India Contest, for Prasna and Best Script writer in the Inter-University Radio play contest for Anantam (1959). The movies, Atma Gowravam (1965), Tarangini (1983), Ramayanamlo Bhagavatham (1985), Mestri kapuram (1991) and Prema Pusthkam (1994) earned him Nandi film awards in different categories including best story, script as well as comedian.
