Girish Panchwadkar Biography

Girish Panchwadkar is an accomplished Marathi singer and music director. He is popular for light music. He is the son of Bhalchandra Panchwadkar, noted musician from whom he learnt light music.  Indapur Bhushan Puraskar, Mauli Krutadnyata Gaurav Puraskar and Maharashtra Gunijan Ratna Kalagaurva Puraskar are the major honours received by him. He is famous for his classic handwriting and special signature. He along with his group ‘Kshitij’ performed 'Marathi Bhavgeet Maifal' in Rashtrapati Bhavan in front of Indian President in 2009, becoming the first Marathi music group to receive this honour. Same year he also performed at Delhi Power Minister’s residence.

 

Girish belongs to Solapur, Maharashtra, born in the year 1960 to famous light music singer Bhalchandra Panchwadkar. He received initial training from father. He formed a music group "Kshitij" and his first stage performance was done in 1992. Since then he has been performing live in many concerts, not only in India but also abroad. Till now his group has done more than 800 shows. Girish is a banker by profession; yet he dedicates his valuable time for his real passion – music. Now both his kids also perform aside him in many stage shows.

 

He composes light music songs in Marathi language, for which he is very popular.  He also writes on blogs. He is a recipient of Gunwan Kamgar Award, given by government of Maharashtra. He has popularized the songs of Sudhir Phadke, Suresh Wadkar, Arun Date etc. He has performed on the songs written by G. D. Madgulkar, Jagdish Khebudkar etc and compositions by Sudhir Phadke, Vasant Desai, Vasant Prabhu, & Vasant Pawar.
