Girish Gangadharan Biography

Girish Gangadharan is a cinematographer known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He marked his debut in Malayalam films in 2013 with the critically acclaimed work of Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi directed by Sameer Thahir. He bagged Kerala State Film Special Jury Award for Cinematographer in 2016 for the critically acclaimed movie Guppy. Mariyam Mukku, Kali, Angamaly Diaries, Solo, Hey Jude and Swathandriam Ardharathriyil are his other works in Malayalam, and most of these movies were critically well acclaimed and box office hits too. He is to mark his debut in Tamil films with the film currently Thalapathy 62 starring Vijay and directed by AR Murugadoss.

 

Girish hails from Chadayamangalam, Kollam. He did his pre-degree course at NSS College, Nilamel. Then, he went to study cinematography at the Government Film and Television Institute, Bangalore. Cinematographer Jomon T John was his classmate, who introduced him to Samir Thahir. At that time he was turning independent cinematographer with Mammootty starrer, Daddy Cool. He went on to assist Samir in a number of his films and ads - including Daddy Cool, Diamond Necklace and Nidra before he started his debut work as an independent cinematographer of Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi. Incidentally the movie was directed by Sameer Thahir. His work was acclaimed and there was no turning back.

 

Girish went on to work in a series of good projects, and was lauded for his exceptional work in Malayalam films - Kali, Angamaly Diaries and Solo. He shot a 10-minute single climax scene for Angamaly Diaries, the movie which earned cult classic status in 2017. He has worked with Sameer Thahir, Lijo Jose Pellissery and Johnpaul George, who gave their best assignments to them, till then.
