Ghulam Mustafa Khan Biography 
Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan is a Hindustani vocalist who belongs to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. He is the son of Waris Hussain Khan and grandson of Inayat Hussain Khan of Sahaswan Gharana. He has been associated with Indian film industry as a musician and has trained several noted playback and classical singers. Bhuwan Shome, Umrao Jaan, Badnam Basti, Shriman Aashiq and Anarkali (Telugu) are known for his film association. Indian government has honoured him with Padma Shri (1991), Padma Bhushan (2006) and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2003). He was named as Junior Tansen in 1969 by Haridas Sangeet Sabha, Mangalore. He currently resides at Mumbai.
He was born on March 3, 1931 in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh. He is married granddaughter of Mushtaq Hussain Khan, Amina Begum. He is also the uncle and guru of classical vocalist Rashid Khan. He has four sons of whom Murtaza Khan and Qadir Khan are classical singers and sung for Bollywood music directors like A. R. Rahman and Amit Triveda. These brothers are known for singing classical songs for movies.
Ustad has been honoured with Honorary Citizenship for outstanding contribution to the field of Indian Classical Music in 1986 by Governor of Maryland. Ustad Haafiz Ali Khan award and Ustad Chand Khan award are other major honours received by him. He has performed at the conference held by then president of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad in the year 1952. He has been the guru of many celebrated singers and music composers of Bollywood, of whom legendary figures A. R. Rahman and Sonu Nigam’s names come first. Hariharan, Shaan and Shilpa Rao are other singers who got opportunity to learn under this legendary musician. Rahman’s sisters, Rayhana and Ishrath too are his disciples.
