Genelia DSouza Biography

Genelia D’Souza is an Indian film actress and model who has acted in many films of different languages such as Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. She started her acting career in 2003 with the film Tujhe Meri Kasam and is in the film industry for about a decade. She has received many awards for her brilliant performance including Filmfare Award.

 

Genelia was born on 5th August 1987 in Mumbai in a Roman Catholic family. Her father’s name is Neil D’Souza and her mother’s name is Jeanette D’Souza. Her father is an officer in Tata Consultancy Services and her mother is a managing director of the Pharma Multinational Corporation. She has a younger brother named Nigel D’Souza.

 

Genelia completed her schooling at Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra and did her bachelor’s degree in Management Studies from St. Andrew’s College. She entered into the film industry while she was still a college student. She is also a national level football player. She was just 15 years old when she did her first modeling assignment. She was selected for the Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan.

 

She is highly religious and attends Sunday Mass regularly. Her mother tongue is Konkani. She was rumored to have love with the actor Ritesh Deshmukh but she denied the fact. However they got married on 3rd February 2012.

 

When she was offered the chance in her movie, she did not accept it first. But after insisting, she played the role. The Tamil director S. Shankar gave her the chance to perform in the film Boys and thus started her career in acting. The year 2006 was an eventful year for her that took her to great heights with the Telugu film Bommarillu which was a blockbuster and won many awards. Her innocent looks and her mannerisms attracted the audience.

 

She then performed in some Hindi films. She played an important role of the Muslim warrior princess in her first Malayalam film Urumi which received mixed reviews. She took part in the stage show of Mani Ratnam, Netru, Indru, Naalai and served as a judge in the finals of Gladrags Mega Model and Manhunt 2009. She has also walked many ramps including the one at the Lakme Fashion Week 2009.

 

She is popularly called as bubbly and energetic girl. She appeared with Shahid Kapoor in the fourth episode of the Tere Mere Beach Mein. When she attended the controversial 2010 IIFA Awards in Colombo, she became a subject of controversy.
