Geetha Salam Biography

Abdul Salam, professionally known as Geetha Salam was a Malayalam artist, who played character roles on Malayalam screen apart from a few TV shows. He was an acclaimed dramatist and stage actor too. He appeared in 82 films in total, apart from a few TV shows. Malabar Wedding (2008), Jalolsavam (2004) and John Paul Vaathil Thurakkunnu (2014) are some of his popular roles in Malayalam screen. He lived during the period, 9 October 1946 – 19 December 2018, and Oachira was his hometown.

 

Geetha Salam was born on 9 October 1946 in Oachira, Karunagapally Taluk, Kollam district of Kerala. He had deep passion in acting since younger days, and he started his career as a stage actor with the theatre group, Geetha. Since then ‘Geetha’ tag got permanently added to his name, and he came to be known by the name ‘Geetha Salam’ in the entertainment industry. Mani Koya Kurup (1979), directed by S. S. Devadas was his first break to big screen, followed by Megasandesam, directed by Rajasenan after a long break. Since late 1980s, he appeared in 82 films in total. In fact he was more active in celluloid during his last years.

 

Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare, Mathai Kuzhappakkaranalla, Vellimoonga, John Paul Vaathil Thurakkunnu, Sringaravelan, Romans etc are some of his noted appearances towards the end of his career. He has played Palmologist, politician, tea stall owner, auto driver, uncle, father etc roles on screen. Most of them were brief roles. As a television actor he is best known for his role as Gandhian in Grand Kerala Circus. The show was aired on Media One TV. He passed away on 19 December 2018, aged 72 years.
