Gayatri Joshi Biography

 

Gayatri Joshi is a model turned Bollywood actress. She has worked for only one movie till now. It was Ashuthosh Gowarikar’s Swadesh, opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Her role was well appreciated. Yet she didn’t work in any more films and got married and said good bye to film industry very soon.

 

Gayatri Joshi was born 20 March 1977, Nagpur Maharastra. She studied in Mount Carmel High School in Nagpur. Later when her family got shifted to Mumbai, she did her schooling in J.B. Vachha High School in Dadar. Her college studies were completed at Sydenham College. She started modeling while she was studying at Sydenham College. She has been a popular face during early 2000’s and her top ads include - Godrej, LG, Ponds, Bombay Dyeing, Sunsilk and Philips. She was also featured in Hyundai ad along with Shah Rukh Khan, with whom she worked for her one and only one movie of her career ‘Swades’.

 

She participated in 1999 Femina Miss India Contest and became one among the top 5. She represented India at the Miss International beauty pageant in Japan during the same year. She was busy with modeling at the same time and appeared in Seasons Catalogue and Calendar during the year 2001.

 

For her single movie Swades, she won many awards. She won several nominations as well. She won best female debut award at Bollywood movie awards and Zee cine awards in the year 2005. She won Star Screen Award Most Promising Newcomer – Female and Global Indian Film Awards, Best Newcomer awards as well thus bagging almost all debut female awards during the year. This movie was dubbed to Tamil and released ad Desam. She was featured on a few melodious songs of the movie, composed by A.R.Rehman. Saawariya sawariya sung by Alka Yagnik and Dekho dekho na sung by Madhushree are two such big songs for which she is remembered most. She played the role of Gita who runs a local school in the village where scientist Mohan (Shah Rukh Khan) directly lands from NASA. The movie is purely based on Indian villages and patriotism.

 

Now Gayathri Joshi is happily married to Vikas Oberoi, the Managing Director of Oberoi Constructions and has two kids.
