Gayatri Jayaraman Biography

Gayatri Jayaraman is a south Indian film actress who works in all south Indian languages. She started her career as a model and won the Miss Tamil Nadu title in October, 1997 and Miss South India title in 1998. She first appeared in character and supporting roles and later moved to leading roles. She has appeared in the boat song – Raat ka nasha of Ashoka (2001) as an item girl before moving to acting roles. After her marriage she took a break from the industry and at present a certified scuba diving instructor in the Andaman Islands. She is married to Samit Sawhny, an entrepreneur and author.

Gayatri Jayaraman was born on 27 September 1984 in Mumbai. Her parents are Jayaraman and Chitra. She initiated her studies at Mumbai and later moved to Shahabad, Chennai and Bangalore. She moved to south India at the age of 4. She was good at studies and earned 94% marks at board exams. As she couldn’t get a medical seat as she wished she started reading a B.Sc in Life Science at IGNOU. She maintained a balance between her studies and entertainment industry as she felt that entertainment world for a model is only for a short span. She joined physiotherapy at SRM College in Chennai.

She started acting career through a television serial - Azhukku Veshti. She debut big screen with Kannada movie, Neela in 2001. Same year she appeared in a song in Ashoka, aside Kareena Kapoor also. Same year she debut Tamil playing supporting role in Manadhai Thirudivittai. Later she appeared in Tamil movies like Vaseegara, April Maadhathil and Shtree. He debut Malayalam opposite Jayaram in Njan Salperu Ramankutty. Later she appeared opposite Kalabhavan Mani in action thriller Lokanathan IAS. Her Telugu film debut was with Srikanth in Aaduthu Paaduthu, where she played supporting role. In 2007 she took break from the industry and settled with family life.
