Gauri Maulekhi Biography 
Gauri Maulekhi is an animal rights activist in India. She started working for Maneka Gandhi's People for Animals in Lucknow, and later her activities got spread across the country. She is a member of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and a trustee in Maneka Gandhi's People for Animals. She is also a consultant with Humane Society International. She has successfully led campaigns against slaughtering of animals, and many activities in which animals have been used as a part of. She is a recipient of the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar, India's national honours conferred on individual women for their exceptional achievement.
Her association with Maneka Gandhi's People for Animals started in the year 1995 in Lucknow. She started off as a volunteer and currently she is a protege of Maneka Gandhi, India’s greatest animal activist ever. With her efforts, she managed to set up the first animal shelter in Lucknow city, marking a new beginning as an animal rights activist. Since then she has been a part of several animal campaigns and fund raising programs for the welfare of animals. She also succeeded in starting ambulance services for animals.
Gauri has been an animal lover since young. Yet she became an animal rights activist in the 1990s only after she got inspired by the efforts of Maneka Gandhi towards this field, while serving as a politician and leader. Maneka was then serving as Union Minister for Women and Child Development and animal rights activist. Thus she owns more than 2 decades of strong bond and love with this animal lover. Today, Gauri is a co-opted member of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), advisor to Maneka Gandhi and also the member-secretary of People For Animals (PFA), Uttarakhand.
