Gaurav Pandey Biography

Gaurav Pandey is a film director and actor of Bollywood. He is best known for playing the role of Shonty, Humpty Sharma’s pal in the recent hit, loosely based on the script of DDLJ - Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, the pivot roles played by Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. He has been a journalist before reaching the entertainment world. As a film director, he is known for the Bengali movie - Shukno Lanka. The movie released in 2010 had the star cast - Mithun Chakraborty, Debashree Roy and Sabyasachi Chakrabarty.

 

He was born and brought up in Kolkata where he spent his early days and completed his education. He played cricket in the streets during his early days. He graduated from the Scottish Church College, Kolkata. He also studied in Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi before travelling to Paris. Later he returned to Mumbai where he started his career as a journalist and worked for 12 long years before reaching entertainment industry. He is not particularly a cinema buff and it was incidental that he got into the film industry. He was introduced to the film industry by the famous film-maker Basu Bhattacharya, whom he met at Paris. He was invited to Mumbai by Basu to work as an assistant writer for the movie Aastha, starring Bollywood diva, Rekha.

 

Gaurav subsequently founded a studio in Mumbai, where he started off with ad films and short films. As a film director, he made a disastrous start with the Bollywood movie ‘Stumped’ in 2003, where Raveena tendon played the lead actress role as well as film producer. The movie was scripted by himself. The movie based on cricket also had Sachin Tendulkar playing a guest role.
