Gaurav Chakrabarty Biography

Gaurav Chakrabarty is a Bengali actor who works in movies as well as television. He came to limelight portraying the character 'Prodipto Lahiri' in the Bengali megaserial Gaaner Oparey that aired on Star Jalsha. He hails from a family related to film field and acting. His parents are veteran actors of Bengali cinema, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Mithu Chakrabarty. Jochhon Dastidar and Chandra Dastidar are his paternal great uncle and aunt. Jagadish and Monica Chakrabarty are his paternal grandparents. He debut silver screen with the Bengali movie, Rang Milanti directed by Kaushik Ganguly and this movie was one among the biggest hits of the year 2011.

Gaurav Chakrabarty is better known by his pet name, Niki. He did his schooling at the Assembly of God Church School in Kolkata and later did graduation from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. He took degree in Mass Communication and Videography. Later he did post graduation in Video Editing from the Film and Television Institute of India at Pune. He has been associated with theatre group Charbak at a younger age. He worked as an assistant and technical staff for this theater group. Rong, Doodh Kheyechhe Meow and Cholo Potol Tuli are a few of such plays. He has also appeared as a stage actor in the popular play, Apsara Theatre-er Mamla where he played the role of Topshe. He has also done a documentary film during his school days for filmmaker Sangbit Samaddar.

He along with his younger sibling Arjun Chakrabarty, were launched in television with the megaserial Gaaner Opare. It was a tribute to Nobel laureate Tagore. Later he appeared in Adwaita aired on Star Jalsa. He debut Bengali cinema with Rang Milanti and his next releases include – Laptop, Chhayamoy and Rupkatha Noy.
