Gajanan Digambar Madgulkar Biography 
Gajanan Digambar Madgulkar was a Marathi poet, lyricist, writer and actor. He has been fondly known by his initials - Ga Di Ma. His literal works include short stories, poetry, autobiography, novel and scripts, dialogs and lyrics for Marathi as well as Hindi movies. He has written screenplays and dialogues for the movies - Jeewan Jyoti (1953), and Do Ankhen Barah Hath (1957). He has also written the story of Hindi movie, Toofan Aur Deeya (1956). Do Ankhen Barah Hath is widely regarded as his best work for which he wrote story, dialogues as well as script. This movie, directed by V. Shantaram is always regarded as a milestone movie of Hindi cinema and always features among the top 10 movies all time. This movie also received recognition at Berlin International Film Festival.
Gajanan was born on October 1, 1919 in Sangli district, Maharashtra. Marathi writer, Vyankatesh Madgulkar is his younger brother. His poems have been adapted to a wide range of musical forms such as Sugam-Sangeet, Lawani and Bhava geet. Madgulkar entered the world of movies in 1938 and has given contributions to 157 Marathi and 23 Hindi movies. He was proficient in 10 languages also.
He wrote a work in Marathi titled Geet Ramayan. Its theme was based on Valmiki Ramayan and had 56 poems. After this he was referred to as "Adhunik Valmiki". As a lyricist, his popular songs include - Indrayani Kathi Dewachi alandi, Uddhawa, Ajab Tujhze Sarkar, Tujhya Usaala Lagel Kolha, Ya Chimanyano, Parat Phira Re, He Kam Ne Tadila, Haji Malang Baba and Viththala, Tu Weda Kumbhar. As an actor, his movies include - Pahila Palna, Lakhachi Goshta, Pedagawache Shahane, Jeet Kiskee, mmaladar, Jagachya Pathiwar, Lokshahir Ramjoshi, Banawasi, Adalat and Pudhche Paool.
