G. Marthandan Biography

G. Marthandan is a film director associated with Malayalam film industry, best known for the hit film – Paavada. Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus, Acha Dhin and Johny Johny Yes Appa are his other directorial ventures. He has worked with some of the leading actors of the industry like Mammootty, Prithviraj, Kunchakko Boban etc. He is associated with film industry since 1996 as an assistant director, and directed his first film, Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus in 2013. The movie starred Mammootty, Siddique and Honey Rose in lead roles. His second movie, Acha Din also starred Mammootty in lead role. Paavada is his biggest hit up-to-date.

He hails from Changanassery, Kerala. He was born as the youngest son of Gopalan Nair and Kamalaamma. He has 4 elder brothers and two twin sisters. His father was an ardent fan of old Tamil movies, and that’s why he named his youngest son as Marthandan. Though it is a variety name, he faced a lot of humiliation for it, right from childhood. Yet his name is not easy to forget. Since he joined film industry as an assistant director, his name became a trademark. He is associated with film industry for long 23 years since mid-1990s, and it took more than 17 years to direct his first film.

During his college days, he didn’t have any intension to become a filmmaker, and was a silent boy. But he loved movies a lot and was a movie buff. His father was an ardent fan of Tamil actor Sivaji Ganesan, and takes his family to cinema halls to watch Malayalam movies only if they are clean family entertainers. Director dreams came to his mind while he was pursuing his graduation from Changanassery NSS College. He joined film industry as an assistant director in mid-1990s, and since then fully associated with cine world.
