G. Marimuthu Biography

G. Marimuthu is a film director and actor, associated with Tamil film industry. He marked his debut as a director with Kannum Kannum (2008), and later directed one more movie in 2014 – Pulivaal. After playing a brief role in 1999 Ajith film, Vaali, he has been frequently associated with Tamil cinema in supporting roles since his debut as a director. Since 2015, he has played many significant roles on big screen, and the actor is quite busy in the past three years. Bairavaa, Enakku Vaaitha Adimaigal, Yaman, Yaakkai, Nagarvalam, Rubaai, Kootathil Oruthan and Magalir Mattum are his releases for the year 2017. His performance in Marudhu (2016) is one of his best performances up-to-date.

G. Marimuthu hails from Pasumalai village, Theni, Tamil Nadu. Since young, he got addicted to films and pursue his dreams in the same field, he ran away from his home. He reached Chennai in 1990 in dreams to become a film director. He worked as a waiter in hotels during his early days in Chennai, in expectations to meet someone from film field. He became acquainted with lyricist Vairamuthu through their interests for literature, which opened his doors to cine world. He managed to become an assistant director with Rajkiran in 1993, worked with him for a couple of movies. Later he also worked as an assistant under Mani Ratnam, Vasanth, Seeman and S. J. Surya. He also showed his face for a few movies.

In 2004, he worked as a co-director in Silambarasan's Manmadhan. Four years later he made his directorial debut through Kannum Kannum starring Prasanna and Udhayathara. The film received rave reviews from critics, though it was a commercial failure. He also started doing supporting roles onscreen, and very soon turned a familiar face. He directed his second film, Pulivaal, inspired from Malayalam hit – Chaappa Kurusu. But its cold response prompted the director to fully concentrate to his acting career.
