G. Gnanasambandam Biography

G.Gnanasambandam is a professor, Tamil scholar, orator and a seasonal actor associated with Tamil movies. Known for his orating skills, he is quite a familiar face in seminars, Tamil debate shows etc. He is a retired Professor of Tamil language at Thiagarajar College, Madurai, and is known for his association with actor Kamal Haasan. As a film actor, he portrayed memorable character roles in the Tamil movies - Pallip Paruvathile (2017), Rajini Murugan (2016) and Komban (2015). He is a recipient of Mahakavi Bharathiar Award 2014 and Kalaimamani Award 2005, both given by state government of Tamil Nadu, and is an influential public figure in the state.

 

Gnanasambandam was born on 19 October 1955 in Sholavandan, Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. He completed his graduation and post-graduation in Tamil language. After studies, he worked as a lecturer in college. He retired as a professor of Tamil language at Thiagarajar College, Madurai. He regularly appears in debate programs across the state, known by the name Pattimandrams and has established himself as an orator.

 

In 2014 he was seen for the first time on Tamil big screen. Kamal Hassan starrer Virumaandi was his first screen appearance and he played a brief role of Jallikattu commentator. Throughout 2000s, he was seen only in a few movies such as Idhaya Thirudan, Kaivantha Kalai, Aayudham Seivom and Siva Manasula Sakthi, and after that he started getting meaty roles onscreen.

 

He recently played some good roles in Pallip Paruvathile, Rajini Murugan and Komban. Vidhi Madhi Ultaa, Thondan, Thondan, Kadaisi Bench Karthi, Kadaisi Bench Karthi, Kanavu Variyam, Parandhu Sella Vaa etc are some of his recent film appearances. Currently he is active in film industry.
