Feroz Khan Biography

Feroz Khan was one of the successful actors of Hindi. He was a film editor, producer and director in the Hindi film industry. As an actor, his popular movies are Qurbani (1980), Dayavan (1988), Mela (1971), Nagin (1976) and Janbaaz (1986). He played supporting role (second hero) in blockbuster movie of 1965 – Arzoo, one of his earliest noted roles. After that he has appeared in numerous movies, both as hero as well as supporting role. Comic movie, Welcome (2007) – his last movie witnessed this popular actor’s comic shades.  Actor Fardeen Khan is his son. Sanjay Khan of ‘The sword of Tipu sultan’ fame is his younger brother. Actor Zayed Khan is his nephew. His niece, Farah is married to DJ Aqueel and Suzanne Khan to Hritik Roshan. His brother Akbar Khan is also a director of Bollywood. His flamboyant style, with cowboyish swagger and cigar toting persona gave new definitions to Indian heroes on silver screen.

 

Khan was born on 25 September 1939 in Bangalore to a Pathan family. Khan was educated in Bishop Cotton Boys' School and St. Germain High School, Bangalore. He later moved to Mumbai to get a chance in Bollywood. He debut silver screen in the year 1960 with the movie, Didi where he played supporting actor role. Then he appeared in low budget movies to get a mark in film industry. His first big hit was in 1965, with Phani Majumdar's Oonche Log (1965), followed by Arzoo, Samson, Ek Sapera Ek Lutera and Char Darvesh. It was through the supporting role he played in Arzoo, he made entry to into A-list second leads. After that he didn’t look back and gave many memorable movies during 1970’s and 1980’s.

 

Khan won his first Filmfare award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the movie, Aadmi aur Insaan in 1969. His memorable films during 1970’s include - Khotey Sikkay, Geeta Mera Naam, Pyasi Sham, Shankar Shambhu and Safar. He worked aside his brother Sanjay Khan in the movies, Upaasna (1967), Mela (1971), and Nagin (1976). He made his directorial debut with Apradh in the year 1971. Dharmatma was another successful movie as hero/director. In 1992, he directed Yalgaar and took a temporary break from the industry. He returned back with Prem Agan in 1998, where he launched his son Fardeen Khan as hero. This movie, followed by Jaanasheen also failed at box office. He was active in Bollywood till the end of his life journey.
