Farhan Akhtar Biography

Farhan Akhtar, son of the versatile lyricist and script writer Javed Akthar is a versatile celebrity too. He has proved himself to be a good actor, director, producer as well as singer. He has worked with almost all leading actors of Bollywood including Aamir Khan, Hritik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, and his only sister Soya Akthar is in film direction filed too. He started his Bollywood journey as assistant director of movies Lamhe and Himalaya putra.

His debut movie Dil Chahta Hai as director in 2001 was a smash hit. This movie can be said to be a trend setter and we have seen Aamir, Saif and Akshay Khanna in new styles. He handled the humour so sensitively that audience welcomed it with both hands. This movie won him the best Hindi movie in National award category too. Before stepping into Bollywood director shoes, he has directed the famous music video of Shankar Mahadevan, Breathless which proved to be a milestone in the career of this versatile singer.

His second movie as a director was Lakshya with Hritik Roshan and Preity Zinta in leading pair. For this movie, Prabhudeva choreographed Hritik for the first time. Though this movie was not a big hit, its lyrics penned by his father Javed Akhtar were well appreciated. Not only that, in all his movies lyrics were contributed by his father.

Farhan Akhtar surprised everyone when he debut as a pop singer in the movie ‘Rock on’ aside Arjun Rampal. Surprisingly he rendered his voice for a few hit pop numbers of the movie too. This movie was a hit and it established him as a good actor. Then he was paired opposite Deepika Pathukone for the movie ‘Karthik calling Karthik’, a movie remembered for its distinct story line and wonderful songs sung by Shankar Mahadevan. In his directed movie, Luck by chance, Hritik played the role of himself and this movie was critically well acclaimed too.

Then he remade 1978 megahit Don in his own style, changing its climax. The movie was well received and Amitabh Bachchan, the hero of original Don also commented positively. In 2012, he made a sequel of Don as Don 2. In both movies, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka  Chopra played the central roles. The movie was well received too. Now he is working for ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ where he essays the original story of Indian athlete Milkha Singh. This movie will be released very soon.
