Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Biography 
Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed was an Indian politician who served as the fifth President of India. He served as the president from 1974 to 1977 during the tenure of Indira Gandhi. He was born on 13th May 1905 in Delhi in a Muslim family. His father’s name was Col. Zalnur Ali. His father married the daughter of the Nawab of Lohari. His grandfather was Khaliluddin Ali Ahmed of Kacharighat near Golaghat in Assam.
He studied in the Government High School in Gonda District of Uttar Pradesh. He finished his matriculation examination in the Delhi Government High School. In 1923 he went to England for higher studies and joined St Catharine’s College at Cambridge. He started his career as a lawyer in the Lahore High Court in the year 1928.
He met Jawaharlal Nehru in 1925 when he was in England and joined Indian National Congress. He showed active participation in the freedom movement. After the independence of India he served as the member of Rajya Sabha from 1952 to 1953. Then he became the Advocate-General of the Government of Assam. He was elected from Assam constituency twice as a Congress party candidate and served in the Assam Assembly from 1957 to 1962 and 1962 to 1967.
He was elected from the Barpeta constituency to the Lok Sabha in the year 1971. He served as the Cabinet Minister of Food and Agriculture, Cooperation, Industrial Development, Education and company Laws. In 1974 the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi chose him for the presidency. He died during his tenure on 11th February 1977. He received the honorary doctorate degree from the University of Pristina in Kososva, Yogoslavia in 1975. He was elected as the President of the All India Cricket Association in April 1967. He served as the member of the Delhi Golf club and the Delhi Gymkhana Club since 1961.
