Erum Ali Biography

Erum Ali is a noted costume designer associated with Indian fashion and entertainment. She predominantly works for films. Erum is the wife of prominent south Indian film star, Abbas – a youth icon of 1990s. Apart from film commitments, she is regularly associated with Chennai Fashion Week, and owns s self-named label. Erum reached the fashion world after her marriage with film star Abbas. She started off designing her husband’s costumes for movie and later made a mark of her own in the south Indian fashion industry. Erum is associated with Chennai fashion scene since 2001.

She was born on August 8, 1975. She got married to youth sensation and popular actor Abbas and the couple had two children. Erum started her professional career in 2001 designing costumes for her husband in movies, and slowly she gained success in the field. Erum worked as costume designer in many Tamil films notably Aayirathil Oruvan and Guru En Aalu. For the movie - Guru En Aalu, Madhavan and Abbas worked together and their wives, Sarita Birje and Erum Ali worked together as costume designers.

Erum designed costumes for many movies since early 2000s. She worked in all south Indian films as a costume designer. Dreams, Katha, Kalyana Kurimanam, Greetings and Mauryan are some of her works belonging to Malayalam language. She has designed costumes for many Abbas movies since 2001. She designed clothes for Abbas for his debut Hindi flick – Ansh. Some of her notable works in Tamil cinema include – Kathal Virus, Anandam, Vanakam Thalava, Thiruttu Payale, Sadhu Miranda, Guru En Aalu, Aayirathil Oruvan, Shock etc. She also owns a retain business in fashion and balancing with both.
