Erle Bartley Biography 
Erle Bartley was a science Professor at Kansas State University during 1949 – 1983. Agricultural Science was his main subject. He was also an inventor of many things related to agriculture, and also those related to Ruminal tympany, also known as bloat, a disease of ruminant animals. He invented the bloat preventative poloxalene, also known as "Bloat Guard". In his research works Erle focused on ruminant bloat, legume bloat, and the utilization of ammonia in the rumen. He was of British origin, born and brought up in India, but later continued with his professional career in Manhattan, Kansas, United States.
Erle Bartley was born on October 23, 1922 in Bangalore, India. Both his parents are British. His early education was done at India and England. Later he moved to US for his advanced studies. He earned his M.S. in 1946 and Ph.D. in 1949 from Iowa State University. After the completion of studies he joined Kansas State University, in Manhattan, Kansas, United States as a lecturer. He worked in the same university till his death in 1983. He suffered a fatal heart attack in his office on February 10, 1983. He received Kansas State University Outstanding Graduate Faculty Research Award in 1963-64.
His research works focused on ruminant bloat, legume bloat, and the utilization of ammonia in the rumen. His research works on preventative treatments for ruminant bloat proved effective. Ammonia toxicity in ruminants and interactions between carbohydrates and urea in the ruminant digestive system are a few more of his research topics. He received numerous honours in the field of agricultural science such as American Feed Manufacturers' Award for Dairy Cattle Nutrition in 1957, Phi Kappa Phi Scholar Award in 1982 etc.
