Elred Kumar Biography

Elred Kumar is a film maker associated with Tamil cinema. After producing several movies, he made his directorial debut with the film - Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal (2012), a romantic thriller. He got associated with Tamil cinema in 2009 and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, released in 2010 was his first movie as a film producer. The movie directed by Gautham Menon was a blockbuster and since then he got associated with Gautham Menon for several projects. Apart from the Hindi remake of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, titled – Ek Deewana Tha, he also produced the Telugu hit - Neethaane En Ponvasantham and Tamil movie - Nadunisi Naaygal. Ko, Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal, Yaamirukka Bayamey and Yaan are among his successful Tamil movies.

Elred Kumar announced his entry to Tamil films as a producer in 2009. Elred was already a successful businessman and he financed the Tamil movie, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa aside his business partner - R. Jayaraman, and VTV Ganesh. The movie starred Silambarasan and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles and music was composed by Rahman. The movie became a huge hit and attained cult classic status. Ko (2011) directed by K. V. Anand was his second movie as a film producer, which met with success. The movie starred Jiiva, Karthika Nair and Piaa Bajpai in lead roles and its sequel is set to release in 2016.

His successful association with Jayaraman, Madan, Venkat and director Gautham Menon has given a few more films like Nadunisi Naaygal (2011) and Veppam (2011). He scripted, directed and produced Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal (2012) which received average response from critics. But the director’s debut movie was screened at Cannes and several international film festivals. Ekk Deewana Tha (2012), Hindi remake of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa was his first Bollywood project. But it failed miserably at box office. Yaamirukka Bayamey (2014), a horror comedy was a descent hit at box office. His upcoming projects include - Ko 2, Kavalai Vendam and Veera.
