Ebrahim Alkazi Biography 
Ebrahim Alkazi is one of the most influential Indian theatre directors who made a distinct fingerprint in Indian drama during 20th century. He served as the Director of National School of Drama, New Delhi during the period, 1962–1977. He along with his wife found Art Heritage Gallery in Delhi. He has been a noted art connoisseur, collector and gallery owner also. He received Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in Direction in the year 1962, and for his contributions to Indian drama during 20th century, he has been awarded with Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship also. He is married to Roshan Alkazi, a costume designer. She died in the year 2007. She has been his true inspiration for his art career. Alkazi was the first recipient of Roopwedh Pratishtan's the Tanvir Award (2004). He has also received Padma Shri (1966), the Padma Bhushan (1991) and Padma Vibhushan in 2010.
Ebrahim Alkazi was born as the son of a Saudi Arabian business man trading in India. His school days were spent at St. Vincent's High School in Pune. His college life was at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. He has also studied at Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. He associated with the Bombay Progressive Artists' Group during the first phase of his career. During this time, he associated himself with M.F.Husain, F.N.Souza, S.H.Raza, Akbar Padamsee and Tyeb Mehta. He has also served as the director of the National School of Drama (NSD). He has trained well known theatre artists like Om Shivpuri, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah and Manohar Singh.
He was married to Roshan Alkazi, a costume designer and author of books related to ancient Indian garments. She established the Art Heritage Gallery at Triveni Kala Sangam, Delhi in 1977 and together they ran it for 40 years. Their children are Amal Allana and Feisal Alkazi and both are theatre directors.
