Dubbing Janaki Biography

Dubbing Janaki is a noted actress of south Indian big and small screen, best known for playing sentimental mother roles on big screen in the 1980s in her mid-ages. She portrayed mother roles prior to her age when she was only in her 30s, and got recognized. She works as a dubbing artist, and also appears on television playing character roles. Sagara Sangamam, Geethanjali and Swati Mutyam – all released in the 1980s, and also Swati Kiranam remains her most memorable roles on big screen. She started her career in films as a child artist in the late 1950s. Her real name is Janaki, and as she is a dubbing artist, and many other cine personalities exist in south Indian film industry with the same name, ‘dubbing’ tag got added to her name.

 

Janaki was born in Peddapuram of Andhra Pradesh on 28 August 1949. Her hometown belongs to Visakhapatnam district. Janaki was a theater artist prior to her entry in films, and later to television. As a stage actress she started her career as a child artist at the age of 9. Goli Ramakrishna Garu was her guru. She studied till 7th standard and couldn’t complete her studies due to conditions in her family. She got married to a military employee and relocated to Chennai. The couple had three children.

 

In films too, she started her career as a child artist in the late 1950s to support her family. Bhookailas in 1958 is her first film. She dubbed for the role of Kasturba in the Telugu film Gandhi, and later earned fame in this field as a successful dubbing artist. Though she stayed in the film industry for many years, 1979 movie, Sankarabharanam gave her the big break in the industry.
