Dr. Sharmila Biography

Dr. Sharmila is a Malayalam & Tamil television actress. She has also appeared in a few Malayalam films, and hosted a few shows. She started off with Tamil TV shows since late 1990s working as TV host, and after that worked in both Tamil and Malayalam soaps. She has played lead, parallel lead and also supporting roles till now, and has been a part of more than 20 TV shows in both these languages, in a career spanning to about two decades. She currently appears in Tamil TV soap, Pakal Nilavu since 2016, where she plays the supporting role of Malar. Most recently she was seen in a cameo role in TV series Roja in 2018. She has married thrice after divorcing twice.

Dr. Sharmila was born on August 17, 1978. Her full name is Sharmila Kothandaraman. Her father Kothandaraman had a pharmaceutical concern. She is a trained Bharathnatyam dancer. Sharmila started anchoring quiz shows on Jaya TV in the late 1990s. Then she hosted a talk show Indha Vaaram Ivar, and interviewed celebrities belonging to different fields. She was a part of the show, Puthira Punithama ? which earned her recognition. Slowly she moved to acting and succeeded in this field as well. She received first acting offers from K. Balanchander known for promoting young talents.

She marked her acting debut in year 2000. Jannal and Irandaam Chanaakiyan are her early shows, directed by K. Balanchander followed by Vishalam, Nambikkai etc. She marked her Malayalam serial debut with Nandini Oppol in 2001, where she played the titular role. Very soon she turned busy in both these language serials, and she accepted both. Penn, Adugiran Kannan, Muhurtham, Chellamadi Nee Enakku, Athipookal, Karthigai Pengal, Valli etc are some of her popular shows with SUN TV.
