Dona Ganguly Biography 
Dona Ganguly is an Indian classical dancer from West Bengal, who performs Odissi. She is also known as the wife of former Indian skipper, Saurav Ganguli, her childhood friend too. She remains the main support, strength and pillar behind one of the best cricketers of Indian sports, and has played a good role in his career success too. The couple has one daughter, born in 2001. As a classical dancer, she owns a dance troupe Diksha Manjari.
Her maiden name is Dona Roy. She was born in Behala, south-west Kolkata of West Bengal on August 22, 1976. Sanjeev Roy and Swapna Roy are her parents. She belongs to a successful business family. She completed her schooling from Loreto Convent School, and took formal lessons in Odissi from renowned guru, Kelucharan Mohapatra. In 1997 she eloped with her childhood friend and Indian cricketer Saurav Ganguly. Ganguly was then a glowing star of Indian cricket team, playing as an opener aside Sachin Tendulkar. When they eloped, their families were not in good terms, and hence marriage happened against parents’ wish. Later both families accepted the relationship, and a formal wedding took place.
Dona started formal learning in classical dance forms at the age of 3. Famous dancer Amala Shanker was her first guru. She is known to be a contemporary dancer of fusion forms. Later Dona switched over to traditional Indian classical dance form, Odissi. Guru Giridhari Nayek was her first guru who taught her Odissi. Later she got opportunity to learn under the veteran artist of the field, Kelucharan Mohapatra. He supported her career, and also assisted her early live concerts with Pakhavaj. Apart from Kolkata, she has performed in different parts of the country, and currently running a dance school. She also does choreography for her dance productions.
