DJ Swami Biography 
DJ Swami is a DJ producer, lyricist and guitarist and the leader of UK pop electronic bhangra band Swami. He is of Indian origin. He has won Best Producer category at the UK Asian Music Awards twice in the years - 2005 and 2008. He has been associated with pop artist Apache Indian in the early 1990’s for his chartbuster hits like – No Reservations, Arranged Marriage and Chok there. They are real cousins. Both were born and brought up in Birmingham, England in the district of Handsworth, a racially mixed area with large Black and Asian communities.
Swami won Best Mix Engineer category at the South African Music Awards 2010. He has received nominations at Ivor Novello and Mercury Prize. He is an internationally accomplished British Asian DJ and music producer who has produced a variety of platinum-selling award winning recording artists. He has been associated with top artists like Shania Twain, Pras, Apache Indian, Maxi Priest, Stereo Nation and China Black and has also done a few remixes.
His real name is Diamond Jyoti Duggal. He grew up in the Handsworth district of Birmingham, England. When he reached teens, he had already started playing guitar in local reggae and rock bands. He listened to the records by Jimi Hendrix, Ravi Shankar, Kraftwerk, Laxmikant Pyarelal and local Birmingham artists Steel Pulse and UB40 since young. In 1997, Diamond started the group Swami with his brother Simon ‘Subs’ Duggal who is a drummer also. Vocalist Taz Singh and musician Kam Bura were its other members and they performed at local stage plays. Their debut album Desi Nu Skool Beatz was released on their SubDub Records label in 1999. The album was given an international release in 2000 on Nation Records. The guitar surfing electronic title track "Mehbooba" was featured in the movie New York Minute (2003). It was followed by a series of hits like So Who Am I (2005) and Mischief Night (2006).
