Divya Unny Biography

Divya Unny is a young and very talented actress working in Bollywood. She is a Malayali by birth, yet concentrates on to power packed roles in offbeat films and Bollywood. She is a part of several award winning short films also, shown at international film festivals. She was most recently seen in a Hollywood film called Hotel Mumbai. Her first short film, Her First Time earned best short film award at South Asian Film Festival held at Washington. She played lead role in this 8-minute short film. Her role as Manoj Vajpayee’s wife in 2016 film, Traffic was noticed. She has acted in professional theater and worked as a media personality, before joining films two years ago.

 

Divya Unny is a Malayali now settled in Mumbai with her family. She has roots in Palakkad. After completing her college studies, she started her professional career as a journalist. She continued in media field for 8 long years before she switched to acting. It’s only 2 years since acting bug bit her. Yet she was associated with amateur theatre work throughout her professional career. She also appeared in a few professional stage plays.

 

She was seen onscreen for the first time in the delayed Bollywood release, Traffic directed by Rajesh Pillai. She played lead actor Manoj Vajpayee’s wife in the film, which finally got released in 2016 to mixed reviews. Very soon, she received opportunity to work with Manoj Vajpayee for his next Bollywood film, Aligarh.

 

In 2017, she acted in ‘Tikli and Laxmi Bomb’, and the film offered her a major break in the industry. The film opened to rave reviews from critics, where she along with Suchitra Pillai played the lead role of two sex workers who decide to kick men out of the system and form a cooperative that runs the business for women and by women.
