Dinesh Singh Biography

Dinesh Singh also known as Raja Dinesh Singh was born on 19 July 1925 in the family of Raja Avadhesh Singh as during British period many landlords were given the title of Zagirdar or Raja. Dinesh Singh was a politician from Kalakankar, a village in Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh. Here it would be appropiriate to write that personalities including Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Lal Pratap Singh, Indira Gandhi, Pundit Sumitranandan Pant, Brajesh Singh and Svetlana Alliluyeva were associated with Kalakankar which was an eminent political place during pre independence era. (Kalakankar is close to Allahabd City). 

Dinesh Singh was a Member of Parliament on several occasions and he held the post of Deputy Minister in the Ministry of External Affairs in 1962 to 1966 and Minister of State during 1966-67, Minister of Commerce from 1967 to 69the Minister of External Affairs of India twice during 1969-70 and Internal Trade in 1970-71. He was also given the charge of Minister of Industrial Development in 1988–89. He was elected again as a Foreign Minister from 1993 to 1995. Dinesh Singh was elected at the ticket of Indian National Congress from Pratapgarh for seven terms starting from the Second Lok Sabha in 1957–62 to the Fifth Lok Sabha in 1971–77 and then again for the Eighth and Ninth Lok Sabha during 1984-1991. 

Dinesh Singh was married to Neelima Kumari the daughter of Tehri-Garhwal' royal family in the year of 1944, and was father of six daughters. Ratna Singh his sixth daughter who was also an MP from the Pratapgarh constituency. Raja Dinesh Singh died in New Delhi on 30 November 1995. Raja Dinesh Sing was a graduate from prestigious Colvin College, affiliated to Lucknow University. Kunwar Brijesh Singh his uncle was another famous politician from the Kalakankar family.
